OUR APPROACH & DELIVERABLES
Logika led the application to vary the existing permit for GECO’s anaerobic digestion facility at Granville Ecopark to allow the export of biomethane to the national grid distribution network. The changes introduced by the permit variation would allow biomethane, produced from the upgrading of biogas generated during the anaerobic digestion process, to be exported either via compressed gas cylinders exported on trailers, as was currently the case, or exported via a fixed connection to the local gas grid operated by SGN Natural Gas (SGN). These changes required the installation of a Biomethane Network Entry Facility (BNEF), a connection to a new gas export pipeline and on-site storage of propane to meet grid entry requirements for calorific value. Logika completed all elements of the application, including BAT assessments and environmental risk assessments.
This project was unique as the permit variation covered Northern Ireland’s very first biomethane gas-to-grid connection.
